Let's Do It, Let's Fall In Love!

(click arrow to play, takes about 10 seconds to start)
''Let's Do It, Let's Fall in Love''

 Vocals: Nicholas Tsachakis
Vocals: Poppy
Piano: Anna Lisowski

To kick off the festivities for Valentine's Day,
hope you enjoy my trio's fun rendition of Cole Porter's
'Let's Do It, Let's Fall in Love', above, recorded at
the Romantica Bar, Creta Maris Hotel, Summer, 2006.

Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman: my ideal couple, a match made in heaven.

"Why fool around with hamburger when you have steak at home?"
-Paul Newman, on why he was never tempted to cheat
on his wife, Joanne Woodward.

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton: passionate, scandalous, and magnetic!

''I love her, not for her breasts, her buttocks or her knees
but for her mind. It is inscrutable. She is like a poem.''
-Richard Burton on Elizabeth Taylor

Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz: each other's funny valentine, what chemistry!

"Lucy and I would love furiously and fight furiously.''
-Desi Arnaz

Gena Rowlands and John Cassavettes: stormy, sexy, soul mates, both on screen and off!

''Before I met Gena, I was a bachelor going out and torturing people. I think that’s good for young people. When I saw her, that was it! The first time I saw her, I was with an actor, John Ericson, and I said, ‘That’s the girl I’m going to marry!"
-John Cassavettes

  12. That was such a great post! I loved hearing you sing "Let's Do It". (Is that you husband singing with you too?) You chose some wonderful Hollywood couples to feature and, of course, you and your husband. Love that photo of you two. Sweet post.

    1. Hi Pamela,

Thank you! No, my husband does not sing. Ever. Although, he does dance quite well, I have to say. The young man in the recording is a talented singer/guitarist who has presently begun a brilliant career as a geneticist, living and practicing medicine in Germany. At the time of the recording, he was a drama student of mine and member of our trio.

  20. Poppy, you have such a stunning singing voice! Love the early photo of you and your husband - so cute. I would love to see a current photo of you two lovebirds. :-)

  21. You have managed to find the most expressive pictures of these famous couples, but none compare to the last couple featured in this post. Indeed, Elizabeth'a violet eyes pale in comparison to your angelic face, matched only by your angelic voice.

Our friends have nicknamed us Lucy and Ricky. That pretty much sums us up. :)

  22. It's the strangest thing, and I don't know if you will take it as a compliment, but as soon as I started playing your song, 2 of the cats jumped on the desk and were riveted to the computer. I've never seen them show the slightest interest in music before. Of course you know I'm a fan of your voice so I guess I'll count Maeve and Michaela as members of your fan club.

  23. What a wonderful post, Poppy! Love the couples you picked and especially you and your beloved. My husband has been my Valentine for note years than I can count! Still love him, too.

  25. Hello Poppy! I read this post the other day and I heard your beautiful song when I was interrupted mid comment.. And then I never had a chance to come back! I'm glad someone asked if you were singing with your husband because I wondered too. The photo of you and your husband is adorable. Your voice is amazing too! What a wonderful talent to have.

Hi Poppy, I loved the post so much, so fun seeing the beautiful couples, I was looking at Desi Arnez's watch, so small, so odd looking because they are all so large now...everyone looks so fresh and new...loved seeing them again, sure takes you back to the day, they were all so in love....thanks for sharing

    1. Hi Anonymous,

Thank you. Re: your observation, I copied and pasted the quote straight from here:

      http://voices.yahoo.com/paul-newman-quotes-his-top-ten-best-quotations-sayings-7572356.html?cat=40

Maybe, he was known to 'fool around' with the wording every so often. I've actually seen it quoted both ways. In any case, we all know what he meant, right? :-D

  42. This truly is one of the best Valentine's Day posts!!! I am old...or at least old enough to remember all of these fabulous actors in their heyday. It was all so romantic...just like many of the movies they made! I can remember wishing Paul Newman would propose to me! SO handsome, so charismatic, and just an all-round good guy!

I'm so glad you included the photo of you and your husband. Such a neat photo of 2 people in love!

Happy Valentine's Day to you! Thank you for sharing this fun and romantic walk down memory lane!

  43. My mom used to make us watch all the old movies and she would tell us the backstory of the stars' love lives. I used to love hearing the glamorous stories ~ they just don't make stars the way they used to! I know that there were tawdry scandals back in the day, but somehow, they still managed to seem classier than the stars of today!
